What is Eco-design?

The proposal for a new Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation, published on 30 March 2022, is the cornerstone of the Commission’s approach to more environmentally sustainable and circular products.

The main purpose of eco-design is to reduce the overall environmental impact of a product or service.

The term eco-design refers to design solutions that take into account the entire life cycle - from material selection and production to use, repair and recycling. In this way, eco-designed lighting fixtures in the conversion contribute to a more sustainable consumption, where quality, durability and interchangeability are promoted.

For luminaires, the electric light sources and actuators supplied in or with the luminaire are covered by the new directives. Among other things, requirements are made that the LED module and the drive unit must be easily detachable from the luminaire, to simplify repair, interchangeability and recycling of the product.

Did you know that most of our LED luminaires in accordance with eco-design have a replaceable unit?

In this way, you can easily repair or upgrade the luminaire without having to replace the entire luminaire. It is sustainable and smart because you save both the environment and money.
